What are the most profound changes we will face in the next twenty five years?
In other words will it be towards religion? Or shift in world power? (considering that Bush's madness of world domination). Or it going to be something else that no one thought of? Ponder that.
I would argue that the most profound changes will be in Artificial intelligence (AI). We are creating and developing technology at an alarming rate. Not only is technology developing exponentially but the rate of change is also exponential (that is, the rate of change is not just additive--a summation of previous parts--but is growing at a logrithmic rate AND that rate ITSELF is growing in speed). As such, in the next twenty five years, we may have dilemmas of what should be given "rights." This will come because AI is not merely a machine that could reach "consciousness" but it is the technological advancement that allow for cyborgs (we have already implanted people with microchips as a security mechanism at high risk places--e.g. banks). How much a human can be mechanized before it/he/she stops being human? This will be the challenge within the next 25 years.
